PRASANNA AUTISM CENTER – PUNE
Prasanna Autism Center is a dedicated organization, headed by Mrs. Padmaja Godbole and is aimed at making every day a ‘Prasanna Day’ (joyous day) in the lives of the autistic children. It had been a long-standing dream and vision of Mrs. Padmaja Godbole. The main objective is to undertake and monitor all such activities, which would help to improve the general awareness of society at large, to treat children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and counsel the parents. Prasanna aspires to be a center unique in its ways and methods in helping parents and professionals understand and manage autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
We are now in the second year of the therapy program at Prasanna. The research program consists of providing therapy to the autistic children at the center, documenting the changes and training the staff and students in AAT.
A paper presentation ‘Animal Assisted Therapy and Autism’ based on the documented results of the therapy program at Prasanna was done at theInternational Conference on Psychology held at NIMHANS Bangalore in July 2007.
” We have seen tremendous change in the children due to Sohipe’s mere presence. She is a big help in claming down agitated and crying children. We have also seen a big improvement in their eye contact and expression levels. For many children ‘SOPHIE’ is the first word they have spoken.” – Mrs. Padmaja Godbole
